about owen

Owen Boucher (he/him/his) is a queer and autistic playwright, actor, and theatre artist based in Hamilton, Ontario on unceded Treaty #3 land. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theatre from Queen’s University, along with an Ontario Advanced Diploma in Musical Theatre Performance from St. Lawrence College. Owen is also an alum of Theatre Aquarius’ highly-renowned Senior Performing Arts Program for secondary school students.

As an emerging theatre artist, Owen has developed new theatrical works with House + Body Theatre and Tarragon Theatre, was one of 16 finalists accepted into the Shaw Festival’s Slaight Academy out of 130 North American participants in their 2021 Monologue Jam, and partook in the original workshops and world premiere concert for Leslie Arden’s new musical The Lancashire Lass. He has written three plays—Anagnorisis (’21), Mirror Ball (’23), and good boy (’25)—and has started developing Overhand/Underhand, a cautionary tale about how far we’d go to save our loved ones from far-right radicalization.

Owen has always been drawn towards unflinchingly honest works that deconstruct narrative and societal conventions to provoke thought, shock, and laughter. Artistically, he interrogates the performance & spectation of queerness, theatre as a counter-cultural artifact, how theatre can serve as the catalyst for grassroots education & liberation, and anything that gets a little—or incredibly—messy.

At the centre of Owen’s practice lies an innate love and curiosity for humanity on the margina. He is incredibly passionate about implementing equity and accessibility practices into the spaces we occupy: the professional, the artistic, and the everyday.
